CBD Oil in Beauty Products and beyond

If you’re always on the lookout for the next big thing in beauty, you might have noticed the recent explosion of CBD product launches. The hero-ingredient has seen a massive growth in Google searches due its holistic properties, with the UK being one of the biggest markets for CBD products.

Cannabidiol – the chemical compound obtained from the leaves of cannabis plants – has been hailed for its calming properties for decades and it is known to help with insomnia, ease the symptoms of depression and anxiety and even relieve pain. Unlike THC (which is the component of cannabis associated with feeling ‘high’), CBD is legal and safe to incorporate within our beauty routines, with its purification for topical use being highly regulated by the Cannabis Trades Association

When used in skincare, CBD is primarily known as an anti-inflammatory that helps with conditions such as eczema, rosacea and acne. The formulas of many anti-ageing products have also been graced by this wonder ingredient as studies show its anti-oxidant properties help fight free-radical damage, tackle dullness and diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles. For those with sensitive skin, CBD has proven itself to be calming and soothing, combating irritation and substantially easing the effects of environmental stress. When used on the body, bath salts and oils containing CBD can help with muscle soreness and tension, making it a perfect pamper treat.  If you’re on the lookout for a period pain reliever, cue CBD-infused tampons, which are said to make that time of the month much easier.

Here’s a product round-up to get you started…

CBD for your period

Daye Ultra-Soothing CBD Tampons, approx. £0.88/tampon

The tampon subscription service is bringing us the world’s first CBD infused tampons. Plastic-free and made from sustainably sourced cotton, these tampons promise to ease period pain. How, we hear you ask? The oil is absorbed through the vaginal mucosa and recycled through the blood supply to the ovaries, uterus and vagina. Vaginal walls are ‘more absorbent than your skin, but they’re also closer to the real source of pain – the uterine muscles- bypassing your digestive system. As an added bonus, the lining of your vaginal canal also contains the highest concentration of cannabinoid receptors in the human body, along with a huge blood supply that provides easy access to the systemic circulation’ according to Lizzy Trelstad, who explained all the how-to’s on the brand’s blog

Ohne Yours, Hormonally, £27

This is a daily ingestible, under-the-tongue supplement designed to help with period hormone-generated mood swings. With 1% CBD oil and coconut and avocado oils added into the formula, this acts as an adaptogen for your adrenal system, helping to keep your hormones (and stress levels) in check.
