The Blusher Edit

5 products to get your cheeks blooming this spring

The best way to get your complexion Zoom meeting-ready? Blusher! Lots of it! Web cameras have a tendency to wash our skin out and make us look much paler, but fear not, we’ve got a quick fix. With the ‘non-tour’(aka no contour) trend in full swing, it is finally time to embrace the playfulness of bright blushers. And if being inside has left your skin looking a little dull, a simple swipe of colour on your cheeks goes a long way and helps brighten your complexion instantly. SS20 Fashion Shows have surely brought the 80s back: at Mark Fast, models were seen with bright eyes in blooming shades and at Jason Wu, draped blusher stole the show.

Bright blusher will also be your best friend if you have little to no time to get ready in the morning. When in a rush, add the same colour to your eyelids for a super-chic, monochromatic look. If you prefer a more natural take on this trend, try and opt for a cream or gel formula that you can blend with your fingertips; the sheer wash of colour will give the skin a subtle glow too.

Here’s a round- up of the best colour-rich blushers to try this spring:

1. Maybelline Cheek Heat Sheer Blusher, £8.99

Available in six shades, these cream blushers are perfect for on-the-go makeup and give the skin a beautiful wash of colour. As for intensity, they really give you the freedom to build the colour up until you achieve the desired effect. Simply warm up the cream texture between your fingertips or on the back of your hand and gently tap on the cheeks for a seamless application.

2. Pixi On-the-Glow Blush, £18

This balmy formula is enriched with skin-loving ingredients such as Aloe Vera and Ginseng, allowing you to achieve radiance from within. The colour is very buildable and the texture makes it super easy to blend. Simply swipe the stick on the cheeks and tap it into the skin for an even application, or reach out for a stippling brush for a more concentrated pop of colour.

3. Nars Blusher in ‘Dominate’, £25

This gorgeous jewel-toned blusher gives the skin a coppery tint, making it ideal for those who find it hard to part ways with their bronzer. The subtle shimmer brings luminosity to the complexion and the rich colour can be worn as a matching eyeshadow if you wanted to go for an 80s look. Apply with your trusted blusher blush, making sure to gradually build it up – a little bit goes a long way!

4. Dior Backstage Rosy Glow 001 Pink, £29.50

If you are fan of subtle blusher, this one’s for you. The sheer, yet buildable formula is very easy to work with and this pinky shade is a go-to for a barely-there wash of colour. The ultra-fine shimmer gives the skin a lovely glow, so don’t be afraid to blend it upwards towards your temples for a lit-from-within look.

5. Benefit Cosmetics Georgia , £27

Does anyone remember this oldie? After having been discontinued for years to many fans’ disappointment, Benefit have brought back the very much-loved Georgia, a peachy-toned sheer blusher with a dash of shimmer. This is a brilliant complexion brightener and perfect for those who want a hint of colour but are afraid of brighter shades. Simply dust over your cheeks and do not be afraid to take it a bit higher for a luminous look.
