Digital Marketing Girl Power

Lean In

If you haven’t already heard of Lean In, you really need to check it out pronto! Lean In, created and founded by Sheryl Sandberg (Facebook COO) aims to help women achieve their ambitions and work to create an equal world.

We want a world where people of every gender can pursue their dreams without bias or other barriers holding them back. Where girls grow up to be confident, resilient leaders. Where more women run companies and countries. We are driven by the belief our society and economy would be better if women and girls were valued as equal to men and boys.

On the website, they discuss the mission and values of Lean In, something that resonates with us at SOCIALight with a very similar core message to ours, in terms of helping to empower women and help them realise their worth and strength. Lean In invites women all over the world to create ‘circles,’ groups of women who get together, support one another and discuss topics relating to their profession and industry.

Tackling some of the issues women face in the workplace including the gender pay gap, sexual harassment and more, the initiative is aimed at taking a stand and giving women a voice.

Our Equal Pay Day campaigns take aim at the gender pay gap. Our annual Women in the Workplace study — the largest of its kind — highlights the barriers women face and includes data-driven recommendations for how companies can do better. Our Mentor Her initiative calls on men to mentor and sponsor women, which is critical for workplace equality. On vital issues like sexual harassment and paid family leave, we take a stand.

On the website you’ll find their podcast ’tilted,’ and the latest Women in the Workplace report. You will also be able to locate your nearest Lean In circles, or if there are none near you, you can start one up yourself.

With a vast amount of recourses for companies and individuals to read and utilise, the movement is a powerful one. The website features educational resources for what they term ‘allies’ including men who want to be involved in making the world a more equal place.
